Can you be vegan and do the hcg diet?

I would love to start the hcg diet but I am a vegan. Are there any protein alternatives?

Coach Terri's Response: Thanks so much for writing. I have had several people ask that question. The answer applies to both vegan and vegetarians.

While both vegan and vegetarians don't eat meat, fish or poultry, vegans go a step further and do not eat dairy products or eggs.

The HCG diet plan does not include the consumption of dairy or eggs so both vegans and vegetarians fall into the same situation so I will address both.

Approximately one third of the HCG weight loss plan consists of protein in the form of lean meats, poultry or fish. So a vegan or vegetarian have to find alternative sources and the most logical one is soy.

There are many soy products out there such as tofu, edamame, tempeh, etc. While good sources of protein, these are not quite the same as the animal sources of protein.

My understanding is that if you plan to use HCG and are a vegan or vegetarian, you will get results, though not quite the same as your meat consuming friends. Your weight loss will be a bit slower but still achievable.

If you decide to go on the HCG diet plan, great! You can order the product here.

If you are not sure, please feel free to arrange a consultation with me and I would be happy to work with you to help determine or get you started on a weight loss program to fit your needs. We can discuss your health and weight objectives, your current eating lifestyle and how to refine what you are currently doing to more effectively reach your goals.

I would like to ask our visitors if any of them are vegan or vegetarian and have gone on the HCG diet. If so, please share your comments and your experience below.

I truly wish you the best...Coach Terri

Update: I heard from Sarah S and she didn't eat any meat on the program and had some success... read her story here
